When we bought the farm we realized that the property would be perfect for camping! Miles of trails, beautiful open fields, a brand new fire-pit, and access to the bathrooms in the house… I have to admit, however that I am not much of a camper – my idea of camping is a Holiday Inn Express 🙂

Fortunately, My cousins, Monte and Becca, like to camp so the property is getting some camping use. They were here camping last year when we had a visit from the bear – you can see the video on the “Critters” post at https://we-bought-the-farm.com/2019/02/24/critters/

On another occasion they camped in the barn when we had a torrential rain storm (they took advantage of the electricity on this camp-out and set up a projector and watched movies).

This Memorial Day Weekend they took advantage of the fire-pit and the newly cleared upper meadow and camped for 3 days. Wence, our friend, contractor, and realtor joined them for one night as well…

Camping on the farm
I got to take advantage of the campfire conversations and cooking… and then I got to go home to my comfortable bed!

James and I took a night hike and he climbed up to the hunters tree stand…

Pretty big steps! Taking after his grandfather… maybe he’ll climb Everest too some day…
Luke turned 6 while they were here so we had birthday cake!

They are quite the campers – 3 nights, one sick kid each night throwing up in the tent… and they still had fun! It seems that they can’t have a camp-out without some kind of excitement!

But I’m guessing they were happy to get home.

It looks like the photo shoot was too painful for James…
so he decided not to stick around…

Monte even made a rope swing and then used the rope and a blanket to make a hammock. Pretty ingenious! He must have been a good boy scout!

One of the reasons we bought the farm was so that we could enjoy the outdoors. However, I am happy observing and experiencing my camping adventures through them… can’t wait to see what happens the next time!
